This sighting of nature at work in our garden provided an opportunity to discuss a much-needed lesson with my 5-year-old – whose brain is still trying to work the idea of cannibalism out of its memory.
I thought his mind would be reeling from the brief, but new information I had just given him.
His only response?
“The Daddy is Smaller than the Mommy???!!!!”
Yes Evan, yes. You just focus on the minor details. We’ll work on the major ones later.

Hahahahahaha! This is so wonderful. That's the great thing about kids - they just process what they can now, and come back to everything else later. They are so wise in some ways.
Oh yes, thanks to grasshoppers, Ryan is now aware that this is "how bugs get married".
What would we do without grasshoppers? :)
