She’s never held me that tight.
Nor has she ever held that still.
And I have to admit, that despite the terror she was feeling,
I became a big fan of those fireworks.
There’s something about being needed -
about being there to protect,
to calm,
to reassure,
that excited me
even more than the thrilling explosions in the sky.
That’s the magic called motherhood.
